Dear citizens and guests of Pskov!
Welcome to our ancient, beautiful, cozy and hospitable city!
Pskov was first mentioned in Chronicles in 903. Being a city of creators and craftsmen, Pskov was distinguished by its independence and uniqueness throughout its history.
From the first years of existence Pskov was an important Russian and European center of trade and crafts and, moreover, one of the 13 ancient Russian cities that had been historically connected with the medieval union of European merchants – Hansa League.
We do value a great historical heritage, which we cherish and save as well as the twinning relations between Pskov and its Sister-cities.
In 2013 Pskov has won the right to hold the 39th International Hanseatic Days, which will be held in the region in 2019. In December, 2014 Vladimir Putin – the President of the Russian Federation – signed a Decree on claiming a federal status to this event.
Now the preparations for the event are in progress. We try to do our best to make the guests of the city feel more at home and welcomed.
Welcome to Pskov, an ancient and contemporary city, where the rarest monuments of ancient Russian architecture and the modern buildings can be found side by side, the center of spiritual culture, where you will discover new pages of our past and present and feel the soul of Russia!
Elena Polonskaya, the Head of the city of Pskov - the City of military Glory
While organizing Hanseatic Days, Russian Hanseatic cities, as well as an ancient Pskov, encourage diffusion of ideas of Medieval Hansa, represent traditions and treasures of those times, tell about politics and culture, commerce and lifestyle. They bring nations together focusing on universal human values. All of this makes me feel proud and exhilarated.
I want to wish all participants and guests of the 39th International Hanseatic Day to have a splendid time in warmly welcoming Pskov, feel the Pskovians’ kindness, enjoy the great diversity of festive events and submerge into unforgettable Medieval atmosphere.
I am sure that XXXIX International Hanseatic Day celebrations in Pskov will be successful and unforgettable for all the participants and guests of the city.
Bernd Saxe, the President of the Hanseatic League
